Merchandising and Its Function
Merchandise
Merchandise means any kind of products or items.
Merchandising
Merchandising is the planning, development, and presentation of product lines for identified target markets with regard to price, assortments, styling, and timing.
Merchandising is the business or marketing activity responsible for ensuring a product’s desirability both qualitatively and quantitatively. In other words, merchandising is the business art of matching goods to the needs and preferences of customers.
Merchandising department are central coordination points for apparel production it also plays role as communication hub for all necessary information.
Merchandiser
The person who involved in merchandising is known as merchandiser. A merchandisers partially a designer able to think creatively, partially an engineer able to develop the product, partially an accountant able to costing and pricing, partially a computer expert able to communicate online, partially a marketer able to market and sell the product, partially a trader monitor export and import procedure and partially an entrepreneur.
Category of Merchandiser
We can categories merchandisers in three categories-
1. Manufacturer Merchandisers
Merchandisers who plan and develop lines that are presented at wholesale apparel market for sale to retail buyer are called manufacturer merchandiser.
2. Retailer Merchandisers
Merchandisers who plan and develop lines for presentation to retail customer and also buy finished goods at wholesale market to develop assortment are called retailer merchandiser.
3. Production Merchandiser
Unlike manufacturer and retailer production merchandiser sale production capacity to produce apparel product including sourcing, promoting, pricing, sampling, planning, executing and shipping the merchandise with desired quality, quantity and timing.
Responsibilities of contractor merchandiser
1. Buyer sourcing and or asking for inquiry
2. Consumption, costing and pricing
3. Price negotiation and order receive
4. Sample development in various stages
5. Procure piece goods with approval
6. Scheduling and follow-up
7. Customer liaison from sourcing to shipping
8. Satisfy customer
